Catching up with new things, and their visuals, from Silverplanes, Death Lens and Rustbelt …

SILVERPLANES, “Where You Gonna Run?”

“Where You Gonna Run?” is the first release from multi-instrumentalist Aaron Smart’s Silverplanes since 2018 — and the first from a full-length titled “Airbus,” due early next year. The big, clean space-rock that soared on Silverplanes two EPs, “Gulfstream” (2017) and “Bombardier” (2018), still flies high here. Like the music on the EPs, “Where You Gonna Run?” was made with Grammy-winning producer Jack Douglas (John Lennon, Aerosmith, Patti Smith, Cheap Trick, among many others) and was mixed by Geoff Emerick before his passing in 2018. A little ’70s arena-rock, a bit ’90s space-jam, a lot of bang for your buck.

DEATH LENS, “Limousine”

Kaylinn Clotfelter directs the video for “Limousine,” the second single (following “Vacant”) L.A. quintet Death Lens has released since signing to Epitaph. It’s a well-aimed punk screed that the band says “pushes the narrative of how lessons learned through media, socials and television never benefit the underdogs. Instead, it gives us examples of life expectations we should follow and rules we need to agree with to reach their level of high standards. It’s our angry anthem and our light at the end of the tunnel for those looking to find motivation and joy in what they have and what we can genuinely attain without feeling pushed to change, to not be ourselves.” Death Lens — Bryan Torres, Matt Silva, Jhon Reyes, Eduardo Contreras and Tony Rangel — close out the year by playing FIDLAR’s “FIDmas” show at Pappy & Harriet’s on Dec. 15.

RUSTBELT, “Running Thru the Rave”

Songwriter John Chiaverina continues to leave his punk/rap project Juiceboxxx in the dust. His debut EP as Rustbelt came out last year, and he’s followed with two singles displaying his pop chops and wry take on all things current, “Oh My God Here It Comes Now” and “You Got Nowhere to Go But You’re Going There Tonight.” The latter is the title track to Rustbelt’s second EP, out Jan. 19, and “Running Thru the Rave” is a catchy missive about the YOLO life. “The track is about going on tour way back in the ‘blog house’ era,” Chiaverina told Earmilk, where the track premiered. “I traveled all around the world, playing shows for kids who wore American Apparel and white sunglasses. I was very young. The song is a portrait of kids living inside of a certain window of life, a window that is by its very nature fleeting; a window that, when it closes, opens up more questions than answers. But nothing matters when you are running through the rave.” Extra ice that soda pop, please.
