Video: Gardens & Villa, ‘Fixations’

Only a month after Gardens & Villa debuted “Fixations” — the trippy lead single from their forthcoming third album “Music for Dogs” — the band unveiled the video for the song. And at the risk of playing right into the hands of the Gardens & Villa marketing onslaught for that forthcoming third album, we feel compelled to share. Because it’s so delightfully weird. Directed by Austin M. Kearns (Jonathan Rado, Weeknight, Strand of Oaks), it revolves around a 1970s-transported-to-the-future party where weird people ingest weird substances and do even weirder things. Drones are involved, which is weird. A raygun murder is committed, which is weird. And we think that’s Sam France of Foxygen, basically playing himself. Which isn’t. “Music for Dogs,” which sees the songwriting duo of Chris Lynch and Adam Rasmussen stretching (and possibly trippin’) out from their indie-pop beginnings, is out Aug. 21 on Secretly Canadian. Oh to have had an invitation to that party.
