As frontman of the dearly departed O.C. quintet the Shys, Kyle Krone embraced classic rock and all its temerity. As a solo artist, though, his output reflects his love of Anglophile-inflected pop. Four years ago he began releasing a string of catchier-than-thou singles that led up to the full-length “For Those Who Think Young.” And now the south Orange County native has just finished recording a follow-up album with producer Jon O’Brien (Young the Giant, yOya, Yellow Red Sparks, et al), capping a creative stretch, he says, when “I had no visitors in the studio, ate healthy, didn’t drink and kept all other distractions to a minimum.” The appropriately titled single “Afterglow,” released in April, is a far cry from the audacious rock on the Shys’ 2006 and 2008 albums; it’s a twinkling entreaty to a flame who “left a trail of broken hearts.” Krone’s new music is tentatively scheduled for a fall release.
