Video premiere: Kid Bloom, ‘Annalise’

Indomitable but inscrutable L.A. quintet Kid Bloom have put themselves on the map by releasing a trickle of singles that mix and match genres like a musical Cobb salad and shift tempos like a balky transmission. The single “Annalise,” with its bluesy shuffle turned power-pop sing-along (they flip the switch at 2:25), is exemplary. The new music video for the song is directed by none other than the award-winning actor Gary Oldman, who’s long had a thing for music (he sang on the “Sid and Nancy” soundtrack, has dueted with David Bowie and produced a Jack White segment for Vevo). Oldman, whose son is friend of the band, does the video documentary-style, straightforward and dark. The band — Lennon Kloser, Jesse Perlman, Josh Conway, Blake Morell and Alex Canter — has changed up a little bit since the video was filmed, and so it features former members Will Reynolds and Max Sterling. Wherever you are, Annalise, thanks.
