Big Scary, the Australian duo of Tom Iansek and Jo Syme, won plaudits for their 2011 album “Vacation,” which spread their music outside their native Melbourne and earned them a reputation as charismatic and eclectic. Their follow-up album “Not Art” will be out Jan. 28 (via Barsuk in the U.S.), and it was produced by Iansek and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Tom Elmhirst (Hot Chip, Lily Allen, Adele, Black Keys, et al). On the single “Organism,” the duo seems not scared one bit to experiment with song structure and instrumentation. Playfully inhabiting the indie-rock, electro-pop and R&B worlds in just over three minutes, “Organism” is one smart being.
