First, this: Los Angeles duo 222 has no relation to The 222s, the first-wave Quebecois glam-punk band from the late ’70s. 222 are Jade Howard and Dennis Hamlin, whose affection for the shadowy electro- and techno-rock of the 1980s and ’90s is on display on their full-legnth debut “Libretto,” released earlier this year. The duo can play relatively nice (“Baby Doll Picnic”), not-so-nice (“If I Tore Your Ti#$ Off You’d Make a Great Pink Lemonade” [yes, that’s a real title]) and downright dark — as in the video for “One Night Stand.” Here, a quick bout of lust leads to a guy turning into an overly persistent suitor, and our heroine rids herself of the stalker in the most savage way possible.
