Like the title of her stunning new album, Wednesday night’s concert with Emily Wells held a lot of “Promise.” The show, moved to the Lyric Theatre from the El Rey earlier this month, meant a cozier environment to see Wells’ vocal and instrumental wizardry, which on this night was augmented by tourmate Lorna Dune and a string quartet. That the crowd has a long wait in the rain until doors opened put a damper on things, but after Rachel Goodrich’s engaging opening set and Dune’s lead-in performance, the Brooklyn-based Wells put on a devastating display of synth and string compositions and live looping, complete with visual projections, including playing many songs from her new album.
