Wolfmother’s bash Saturday night at the Fonda Theatre started with a riff — the shards of guitar that open the title track from their latest album “Victorious” — and ended with a wreck, with Andrew Stockdale smashing his guitar to bits after the finale and tossing the pieces to the crowd. In between, it was an hour-plus of hard stuff that saw the mercurial Australian trio rage through old songs and new, including the songs “Woman” and “Apple Tree” (both a decade old now) early in the set. A giant mosh pit rumbled throughout the show in the middle of the Fonda floor.
L.A. duo Deap Vally matched the Aussies shreddy part for shreddy part, with guitarist Lindsey Troy and drummer Julie Edwards (back behind the kit after becoming a mom in December) working the crowd into a froth. (They return April 14 at the Fox Theater in Pomona to open for Silversun Pickups and Foals.)
