[Why, it’s Prince’s birthday. Apparently they celebrated in his hometown over the weekend …]
Top 5 ways to start the week that doesn’t involve wearing my Cardinals red to Dodger Stadium tonight:
‣ Thao and Mirah With the Most of All – the teaming of indie-rock songstresses Thao Nguyen and Mirah for tour on which they perform song’s from each other’s catalog – play the Bootleg Theater. [That’s the video for “When We Swam,” above, off the 2009 album from Thao With the Get Down Stay Down.]
‣ The highly recommended We Barbarians residency kicks off a Spaceland, with Ezra Furman & the Harpoons and the Romany Rye supporting.
‣ Hot Hot Heat is the not-very-secret headliner at the RSVP-only It’s a School Night at Bardot.
‣ Delta Spirit does an in-store at Amoeba – the band’s excellent sophomore album “History From Below” comes out Tuesday.
‣ And Line and Circle [more to come on these guys later] kick off their residency at the Silverlake Lounge.
Your tastes may vary: Australian Idol dude Guy Sebastian at the Hotel Cafe; June residents Rainbow Arabia (with Japanther supporting) at the Echo; June residents the Steelwells at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; and MC Chris at the Troubadour.
