A lot has happened for L.A. garage-rockers the Dead Ships since they were on the receiving end of a phone call from Goldenvoice president Paul Tollett in January. Included: A Coachella set (and part II at noon Saturday), continued collaboration with Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) and getting signed to Nevado Music, which will release their second LP, “Cityside,” on June. “Cityside” is the follow-up to 2015’s “EP I,” which was also produced by Canning, and 2012’s self-released debut “Electric Ahab.” Apparently all that was left for the Dead Ships to accomplish was to defy gravity.

And now you have the new video for “Seance.” “Your ghost can haunt me whenever you need a break from forever” frontman Devlin McClusky sings while suspended by ropes in the video. Despite his gravitational and vertical challenges, he manages to maintain composure, and for a moment, viewers might forget they’re watching someone singing while tied upside down. When asked by Culture Collide about the experience of filming, McClusky joked, “You know, if I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times: You do not realize how difficult it is to be bound neck to toe in naval rope, hung upside down and calmly lip-sync to a sped up version of your song until you’re up there doing it. No matter how many times you do it you always forget until it’s happening again, but I suppose it’s a cliché for a reason.” Directed by Brazilian film duo Diana Boccara and Leo Longo, the video is part of the “Around the World in 80 Music Videos” project. The video expounds on the release of last month’s single, “Company Line.”
