Coachella mourned in purple and in song Friday for Prince, the iconic artist who died Thursday at age 57.

Part of his 2008 headlining set — his cover of Radiohead’s “Creep” — was played on the main stage’s big screens leading into LCD Soundsystem’s set, and the headliners followed by adding a cover of “Controversy” into their set. “From now on, this is Prince’s house,” a message on the big screens read.

After dark — with the palm trees surrounding the Empire Polo Field in Indio bathed in purple (they’re usually illuminated in rainbow colors) — other tributes to Prince were heard. Among them: Sufjan Stevens and Gallant teamed up on “Purple Rain;” Ellie Goulding did “When Doves Cry;” 2manydjs and Jack U sprinkled in Prince moments during their set; and Mavis Staples told a Prince story followed by a verse of “Purple Rain.”

Near the Ferris wheel, where posters of all past Coachella lineups are displayed, somebody started a small shrine.
