Catfish and the Bottlemen have come a long way since their 2014 debut, “The Balcony.” They’ve completed a sold-out tour, won British breakthrough act at the Brit Awards 2016, played all the major festivals, had Ewan McGregor in one of their videos (Hourglass), and now they’re gearing up for the release of their second album, “The Ride,” due May 27 via Island Records. According to a statement on the band’s Facebook page, the title is a lyric from the last song on the LP called “Outside,” which has yet to be released. They started recording in between shows last summer before heading to L.A to work with hero/award-winning producer David Sardy (Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Band of Horses, Wolfmother).
“The Balcony” was welcomed by critics and fans alike as they embraced the band’s mid-2000s indie guitar rock aesthetic, reminiscent of early Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes. As anticipation builds for “The Ride,” The Welsh lads put out a black-and-white performance video for the first single, “Soundcheck,” off the forthcoming LP. The track shows how the band has quickly matured in such a short amount of time. Time to break out the leather jacket, skinny jeans, and indie boots; it’s time to fall in love with guitar bands again.
