New York quartet The Dig has been mostly quiet since releasing two EPs in 2013, the year that they summered in Los Angeles, did a residency in Silver Lake and won friends with their hazy blend of shoegaze and new wave. The band — David Baldwin, Emile Mosseri, Erick Eiser and Mark Demiglio — return to L.A. this week armed with some new tunes, none of which have infiltrated the digital world yet. But they did have a winner on “Before I Ever Met Someone,” the recently released sampler from Roll Call Records available on Bandcamp on a name-your-price basis and featuring the likes of Typhoon, SWIMM, Geographer and Royal Canoe. “4th of July” hits the high notes somewhere between glam ’70s and post-punk ’80s. It’ll be interesting to see what they’ve come up with next — and they’ve coerced their former tourmates the Henry Clay People out of retirement to play Thursday’s show with them, a bonus.
