Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter — doing business as Phantogram — today announced their third album “Three” would be out Sept. 16. With the news — and the warning that the new album would be “more fucking boombastic (sic) and heavy,” they told Pitchfork — came the release of the new single “You Don’t Get Me High Anymore,” available as an immediate download with a pre-order of the new album. “Metaphorically, it’s about addiction,” Carter said of the new song. “It’s also about certain things that we see in culture, pop culture, and even music that we find redundant, that we’ve always kind of strayed away from as a group.” We’re all for avoiding redundancy, so decide for yourself whether Phantogram has pulled it off with their light-saber synths and teeth-rattling beats.
