It’s been exactly one year since Brainfeeder released kaleidoscopic jazz-funk musician Thundercat‘s mini-album, “The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam.” Co-produced by Thundercat, aka Stephen Bruner, and Flying Lotus, the six mighty tunes feature appearances from Herbie Hancock and Brainfeeder labelmates Kamasi Washington, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Mono/Poly. His song of mourning, “Song For The Dead” inspired Australian visual artist Ry No to sketch out the animation. Specifically, the moment occurring at 1:49 in the song sparked his imagination. Bruner loved it and voila, he’s playing bass in outer space and comforting a wolf’s spirit on his journey to the beyond.
