The new video from Duniven — the L.A. roots-rockers helmed by Patrick Duniven — throws back to the silent movie era, with a madcap story line, a bunch of cameos and a little karma. “My Delight” is a comedic romp that finds Duniven and his sidekick, played by Tommy Mofid, playing day laborers who are hired by jerk homeowner to do yard work. “The specific concept was inspired by a YouTube video I came across for ‘The Passenger’ by Iggy Pop,” Duniven explains. “Someone decided to sync up that song with a Laurel and Hardy skit and I though it was brilliant, so I ran with it.”

The homeowner is portrayed by David Henderson, a drummer who has performed with artists such as the Knack, Frank Blac, and Adrian Younge. The blind guitar player — from whom the homeowner swipes money — is played by Jack Waterson, a musician and owner of Future Music in Highland Park, and it is Henderson’s overgrown yard where the video is shot. Directed by Duniven, the video was filmed and edited Alex Chu (who also plays the worker in the beverage store). Oh, and speaking of madcap, Duniven sustained a cracked rib in the wheelbarrow tumble during the shooting of the video.

As for “My Delight,” a brisk four minutes of yearning Americana with a guitar solo from David Immerglück (Counting Crows), it’s the third single from the new Duniven album “The Plan” (out July 8). Produced by Jerry Borgé (aka Jason Borger, who has played with Jackson Browne, Ziggy Marley, Dave Stewart and Jonathan Wilson, among others), it also features contributions from Tripp Beam (Moby), Lee Pardini (Dawes), Brian Whelan (Dwight Yoakam), David Spreng (Bob Dylan/Lucinda Williams), Rick Holmstrom (Mavis Staples) and Eli Wulfmeier.
