The John Anson Ford Amphitheatre, the 1,200-seat venue across the 101 from the Hollywood Bowl, reopens after a two-year renovation with a pair of concerts next weekend, including a Saturday, July 9 date featuring Aloe Blacc.

As is often the case with the Ford’s programming, it’s not a straight-ahead Aloe Blacc show. The Orange County native will be joined by L.A. guitarist Woody Aplanalp, Brazilian guitarist Fabiano do Nascimento, East L.A.-based son jarocho band Cambalache, soul-rock fusion group the Brothers Band and avant-classical power trio the Concentrates; Blacc will be performing his own arrangements of songs by Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell and other icons of American social movements. (Tickets are still available.)

The Ford’s season, which runs through Oct. 15, includes a typically diverse program of music, dance, theater, film and spoken word, along with the Monday night “JAM Sessions at the Ford” series and six Saturday mornings of the “Big World Fun” performances for children. The Ford is located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. East.

In addition to the Ford-programmed events, one other concert is on the schedule: Colbie Caillat, with Justin Young and High Dive Heart, on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
