The final installment of this month’s Also I Like to Rock series at the Hammer Museum just got a folkie’s touch – Ferraby Lionheart will give a special acoustic performance Thursday to kick off an evening featuring rock sets by Voxhaul Broadcast and Chasing Kings.
Lionheart, born and now based in Nashville after spending substantial time in Los Angeles a few years back and winning a lot of hearts with 2007’s “Catch the Brass Ring,” will preview material from his new album “The Jack of Hearts” (due Aug. 3). It’ll be a warm-up for his upcoming shows Monday at the RSVP-only It’s a School Night at Bardot and his full-band album release show on Aug. 2 at the Bootleg Theater.

Lionheart, who recently filmed a video for his song “Arkansas” with pal Rainn Wilson, has made a sophomore album full of warm melodies, rich imagery and poignant storytelling. Should be an excellent way to start an evening in the Hammer courtyard.
Chasing Kings, by the way, will be accompanied by performance painter Norton Wisdom, who creates visual interpretations of live music using brushes, sticks, his fingers, and a squeegee on illuminated fiberglass. Wisdom has collaborated with Beck, Nels Cline, Angelique Kidjo, Daniel Lanois and Dave Navarro, among many others.
Doors for the free, all-ages Also I Like to Rock shows, presented by the Hammer and KCRW and curated by Buzz Bands LA, are at 7. KCRW’s Chuck P spins Thursday in between sets.
