Newbury Park sextet Hunny are continuing their march toward world dominance — or at least the chunk of the world still given to the wistful romanticism of 1980s arena-rockers. After releasing their debut EP “Pain / Ache / Loving” last fall, Hunny followed up this spring with the infectious single “Vowels (And the Importance of Being Me),” an A-E-I-O-U-spitting radio hit. And in their recent live shows, the band — Jason Yarger, Jake Goldstein, Jacob Munk, Gregory Horne, Kevin Grimmett and Joey Anderson — have demonstrated there’s more where that came from. Like the tidy, 3-minute “Colder Parts,” released today, on which Yarger pretty much goes full-on Robert Smith. It’s an affectation many have employed over the years, and the singer makes it sound natural over the song’s bass progression and thorny, distorted guitars. “We’re trading our worn out hearts now for colder parts / Will we end up dancing alone?” Yarger sings woundedly. In his case, probably not.
