Video: Death Valley Girls, ‘Disco’

Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but KROQ DJ Rodney Bingenheimer is starring in a Los Angeles band’s new music video. Only this time, it’s bloody. The video for Death Valley Girls’ single “Disco” was directed by Kansas Bowling, the 20-year-old who as a teenager directed the Troma Entertainment slasher flick “B.C. Butcher,” which was set in prehistoric times. The bloodbath in “Disco” isn’t prehistoric, but it dates to the 1970s and the heyday of Rodney Bingenheimer’s English Disco on the Sunset Strip. With its occult theme and campy debauchery, it could have only been filmed on Super 8, and it was. “Disco” is from Death Valley Girls’ second album, “Glow in the Dark,” a glam-psych-punk cocktail that spiked has membership in whatever strange cult the L.A. quartet and frontwoman Bonnie Bloomgarden are leading.
