Ears Wide Open: Raener

Los Angeles indie-rock sophisticates Raener have been playing around town since early 2016, impressing at every turn, without formally releasing any music, save a couple of tracks on Soundcloud. The quartet — Daniel Fox, Will van Boldrik, Zach Bilson and Daniel Vanchieri — constructs meticulous soundscapes of beats, effects, guitar and voice, straddling the chasm between anxiety and hope and embracing the experimental spirit of artists such as Mount Kimbie, Four Tet, Caribou and occasionally, yes, that Yorke guy. “No Sun” is as bleak as it beautiful, and it’s the lead track on their debut, “EP I.” The four-song release, recorded in a beach house in Santa Barbara, arrives Oct. 6 via Danger Collective Records, with Raener joining Beach Fossils for East Coast and Midwest tour dates later in the month.
