[Birthday greetings go out today to Cisco Adler …]
Four fine ways to wrap up your holiday weekend:
‣ Eastern Conference Champions kick off their residency at Spaceland. Newbies Rabbits Rabbits Rabbits were originally scheduled to support but have had to cancel; O.C.’s the New Limb replaces them on the bill.
‣ Vanaprasta and Pacific Hurt start their co-residency at the Echo.
‣ Folk-pop sextet Family of the Year (that’s their Wilcox Session recording of “Stairs,” above) start their residency at the Bootleg Theater (it’ll be at the Silverlake Lounge on ensuing Mondays), supported by Death Kit and Hi Ho Silver Oh. FOTY’s music is finally getting released in Europe; Stereogum has two tracks on their foreign EP that appeared here on their self-released album “Songbook” in November.
‣ And Ben Folds plays the RSVP-only It’s a School Night at Bardot, where he’s likely to preview a bit of “Lonely Avenue,” his forthcoming album made in collaboration with author Nick Hornby.
Your tastes may vary: As the Ashes Fall at the Viper Room; the Peculiar Pretzelmen at the Mint; and NASA Space Universe at Pehrspace.
There are always too many good shows on Mondays. The New Limb sound really good. I need to check them out some time.
Another good choice is Kisses, Brittain Ashford, Blunt Mechanic and Mystery Claws at Echo Curio.
