The second Outpost Fest, which was scheduled to go off in downtown Santa Ana on Nov. 12 and feature the likes of Matt & Kim, BØRNS, Cloud Nothings and more, has been postponed.
A notice on the event’s website and social media merely states that it has been “postponed to 2017” and that “All tickets will be refunded at the pint of purchase.” An email inquiry to festival organizers was not immediately answered.
The one-day festival debuted in 2015 with a seven-band lineup including Cold War Kids, fest co-founders Delta Spirit and Blonde Redhead.
There are too many festivals. Yes southern California is huge, and I support giving the people lots of options, but there may be a shakeout coming. Yes, some of the new festivals have turned out well, such as Music Tastes Good. Also, some festivals have emerged to become beloved, such as Echo Park Rising. However, too many festivals overlap too many of the same bands. Also, some festivals should not compete at the same time, like Eagle Rock Music Festival trying to compete with Echo Park Rising on the same weekend. Festivals need to be planned better. The best festivals are the most established, or the best curated. Also, logistical issues need to be worked on for some of them, as I heard Beach Goth was an absolute logistical nightmare due to it moving back to the Observatory, with nowhere too sit and too many people on too small a location, which is not safe if a disaster occurred. Sometimes the quantity of festivals does not always equal quality. I would love to see a discussion on here.
