L.A. quartet Wilderado had a big 2016, and this year is looking even more promising. Last year saw the quartet — Maxim Helmerich, Colton Dearing, Tyler Wimpee and Justin Kila — change its name from Bird Dog to Wilderado, release two EPs and then follow them with some singles that 1) sent us scurrying to the back of the closet for our best denim, and 2) made us thankful people still flock here from places like Texas and Oklahoma to make music. The new single “Under the Weather,” is their third since July’s “Latigo” EP, a wintertime retro-rocker that’s the guitar version of the “in-sickness-and-health” vow. It follows the woebegone meditation “Talking About Love to a Cigarette,” an exemplary internal conversation set to music. Oh, and it was just announced that Wilderado will be playing Bonnaroo this summer; it’s probably more within our budget to catch them this month at their residency in downtown L.A.
