Syd, the frontwoman of the neo-soul and R&B outfit The Internet, is set to release her debut solo album “Fin” on Feb. 3 via Columbia Records. She wrote and co-produced the 12-track project, which also features production from the likes of Haze, Hit Boy and Rahki. The first single, “All About Me,” features the beat-making prowess of The Internet’s guitarist Steve Lacy, who has crafted a hazy synth melody like the “Legend of Zelda” theme on codeine cough syrup, boosted by a shifting and stuttering drum cacophony full of bravado that Syd’s silky voice coasts above with breathy delivery. The sophomore single, “Body,” is a smooth little ditty about the hibbity dibbity produced by “Lemonade” contributor MeLo-X, and surges with growling bass reverb and sultry keys.
If you’re looking to scope this dark alt-R&B goodness live, The Internet has just announced “The Internet Presents The Internet Tour,” a small run of dates in February and March that will stop in the City of Angels and showcase each of its five members — the aforementioned Steve Lacy on guitar, co-founder Matt Martians on keyboards/vox, Patrick Paige II on bass, Christopher Smith on drums, and Syd — taking central stage to play their solo material as the rest of the band backs them up and rotates through, like R&B roulette where all the players win.
