The Internet has been pretty quiet in the last year after releasing their Grammy-nominated, 2015 album “Ego Death,” but it appears that 2017 will not only bring lead singer Syd’s debut solo record, but co-founder Matt Martian’s first solo album as well. Titled “The Drum Chord Theory,” it’s out Friday on AWAL/ Kobalt Music Recordings. Martians wrote and produced “The Drum Chord Theory” in his childhood bedroom of hometown Atlanta, and it will feature singer Kari Faux and Syd, as well as production from Faux, Tay Dreamin’ and Tyler, the Creator. The first track to emerge from the album is “Diamond In Da Ruff.” It’s a funky, psychedelic love song produced by Martians and The Internet’s Steve Lacy about a current flame with Martians’ stacked vocals in soulful territory, before an interlude from an old flame launches the track into the coda steeped in Egyptian Lover funk territory, produced by Lacy and Kintaro, with Martians reflecting about said ex over raucous beats and Rhoades bars.

On the eve of these new albums, The Internet has charted “The Internet Presents The Internet Tour,” culminating in Los Angeles in March and featuring Martians, along with guitarist Steve Lacy, bassist Patrick Paige II, drummer Christopher Smith on drums, and vocalist Syd, each taking turns fronting a set of their new solo material with the other members backing them up.
