Since 2013, Ryan Pollie has been releasing a cool stream of bedroom pop under the Los Angeles Police Department moniker. In 2014, Pollie put out a self-titled debut, followed by a 7-inch on Fat Possum in 2015, and then there was “Hard,” last year, produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado. Somehow, he’s been able to maintain the LAPD eponym without problems. “The band name is the juxtaposition of something cold, sterile, and bureaucratic with the most personal and emotional part of my life,” Pollie says, as he does mostly write about love. The latest news is that LAPD signed with Anti- Records, who will release the band’s next album this year. This first cut is “The Plane 2,” a bouncy, plaintive, romantic pop tune about a girl Pollie can’t get off his mind, with a surprise synthy outro mimicking a magical take-off on his love jet.
