It has been five years since LA duo Electric Guest released their first album, the Danger Mouse-produced “Mondo,” which thrust them into an indie spotlight that eventually dimmed in their radio silence. The band slowly gained a newfound momentum and finally, this February, they released their sophomore record “Plural.” This half-decade of space has created an anticipation with fans as proved by the swiftly sold-out show at the Teragram Ballroom on Saturday night.

Along with Reese Richardson (the Mynabirds) on guitar/keys/ backing vocals and Luke Top (Fools Gold) on bass, they opened their set with “Waves” from their first record, inciting an immediate dance party with front man Asa Taccone’s signature falsetto and Matt Compton’s disco-funk beats. This last gig of their tour was certainly an appreciated homecoming and Taccone noted some of the stranger things they experienced elsewhere in the country. They shared a phone recording overhead that he made of a gun-toting Uber driver in one state, and joked that paying for a $12 juice here in L.A seemed reasonable.

Just after the third song, Top’s synth bass cut out and while Taccone entertained the front half of the audience with an awkwardly long Q&A, the rest of the band huddled over the guitar as if they were going to have to begin soldering. After questions like “Are you into Asian chicks?”, “What’s your favorite movie?” and the most applicable, “When is your next song?” the band performed “See The Light” while the bass was eventually repaired MacGyver style.

The set continued with “This Head I Hold”, “The Bait” and the dance party eventually ended with new single, the ’70s-inspired “Dear To Me.” Now having toured in support of their new record, Electric Guest seem back in business with some festival dates and another US tour on the horizon.
