[Quick notes for a Friday morning … ]
‣ I’ll miss the puppets too. L.A. three-piece the Spores, who combined brash electro-rock with a wildly theatrical stage presentation that included edgy and fanciful puppet characters, have called it quits after five years.
‣ The Blur reunion seems to have everybody atwitter — and wouldn’t their name look good on the Coachella poster? — except, apparently, Scottish psych-rockers Mogwai, who didn’t like Blur the first time round either.
‣ Dept. of Questionable Band Names: One is enough, guys.
‣ Loved the Local Natives’ set Monday night at the Silverlake Lounge (where the LBC six-piece has a February residency). They’ve made a nice little Christmas song they are offering for free download, and here it is: “We Come Back.” Additionally, the deft harmonizers have covered the Talking Heads’ “Warning Sign.” Cool.
‣ Local avant-pop outfit Fol Chen — whose debut comes out Feb. 17 on Asthmatic Kitty — have released an engrossing video for their song “The Believers.” The video, the work of collagist Kelly Sears, might make you rub your chin, in a good way. Oh, and here’s a free download of the song: “The Believers.”
‣ And I will confess to not buying into a lot of the Lily Allen hype the first time around. Her sophomore album, “It’s Not Me, It’s You” (recorded at Eagle Rock Studios with a little help from local hero Greg Kurstin) is due Feb. 10 on Capitol. Gotta admit having fallen for this first single, “The Fear,” and here’s the video:

Bronsons? I ‘d change my band name to ‘The Muslims’.
Oh no’s! I loved The Spores. 🙁
I like Lily. Always did. Its just hard for me to get past the fact that thre only reason she is where she is is because of her dad’s lable exec title.
