Lambchop brought their melancholy splendor to the Bootleg Theater on Saturday night on a rare visit to L.A. from a band that has consistently woven a rich tapestry of old and new country and electronica since the early 1990s. The Bootleg crowd of mostly longtime fans were enamored: “Y’all sound the best ever,” one shouted, to which main man Kurt Wagner replied, “Now the show is jinxed.”
But it wasn’t. Lambchop was touring behind its latest album “FLOTUS (For Love Often Turns Us Still),” a sprawling and moving piece of work and the audience was thoroughly engaged.
Opening the night were Brokeback, the project featuring Douglas McCombs of Tortoise, playing material from their album “Illinois River Valley Blues.”
