Video: Nightmare Air, ‘Who’s Your Lover’

L.A. noisemeisters Nightmare Air first started banging heads around 2009, with guitarist Dave Dupuis (who once played in Film School) leading the way, looking up from his pedal board long enough to savage audiences with waves of distortion and shrill vocals. In 2013, the band — then a trio with Dupuis, bassist Swaan Miller and drummer Jimmy Lucido — released their full-length “High in the Lasers,” which was rightfully embraced by shoegaze heads everywhere.
With their ranks expanded by the addition of Liza Stegall on keyboards, Nightmare Air returns with a new full-length later this year, and the early returns find bassist Miller at the center of the fray. Less harsh that the band’s previous work, the new singles “Who’s Your Lover” and “Sign of the Times” find the quartet making what Dupuis calls a “musical pivot,” here in the direction of lush shoegaze pop. It’s not a drastic turn, but Miller has come into her own as a vocalist and Dupuis has dialed back the hurt.
No release date has been set for the album.
