Heavenalive is the solo venture of singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Silverstein, the former singer-guitarist in the band Herculion who, after a couple of years of soul-searching, experimenting and obsessing, has emerged with a batch of music that includes the raw-boned garage-rocker “Monster.” The tune’s retro hip-shaking rhythm belies its dark undertones — the monstrous urges that gnaw at innocence. The video for the song, which was directed by Silverstein and produced by Christine Sohail, features actress Sharice Russell, shimmying merrily until she goes down that slippery slope. Fans of Hanni El Khatib might get along with the music of Heavenalive, which Silverstein self-recorded (and on which he plays all the instruments). In his garage, no less.
