The surprise album release of the day came from Dream Club, the L.A. quintet that for the past three years has been the passion project of Justin Warfield of She Wants Revenge. The band’s self-titled album, available on Bandcamp on a name-your-price basis, throws back to classic California rock, informed equally by the Laurel Canyon folk and psychedelia and the edgier sounds of that famous thoroughfare below.

Warfield is joined in the band by his wife, singer Stefanie King Warfield (who captures the moment on the harmony-happy “Cali Gold”), bassist Gianni Garofalo, drummer Justin “Dusty” Rocherolle and guitarist Jamie Arentzen. There are good vibes and strong chemistry throughout — in a 2016 interview, even as She Wants Revenge were ramping up their 10-year-anniversary shows, Warfield said he was pretty giddy to have started a bad with his wife and his childhood best friend. “They both represent a different part of my musical background and who I am,” he said of the two projects.

The first single from the new album is “Cuts,” a dark, insistent rocker that might be the closest thing on “Dream Club” to Warfield’s other band, and notable for its spousal harmonies and sharp guitars. Overall, though, Dream Club wears the fabric if the 1970s well, particularly the cloth of the two Hall of Famers who headlined the Classic West concerts, with some hippy-dippy good nature and a Pink Floyd moment as well. Maybe it’s true that middle age is all the rage.
