KCSN, the non-commercial FM station headquartered at Cal State Northridge, will combine with Orange County’s KSBR to create a station that will be called The New 88.5.

The partnership, announced today via Billboard, will almost quadruple 88.5 FM’s coverage area, creating an adult album alternative (AAA) station that spans almost all of Los Angeles and Orange Counties. KSBR had been operating as a smooth jazz station.

(KCSN is outlet that carries this reporter’s L.A. Buzz Bands Show, a local music program, on Sunday nights.)

The new station will broadcast from each campus, as well as from KCSN’s remote studio at the Village at Westfield Topanga.

The shared programming arrangement will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

The New 88.5 also announced it will host a benefit concert Oct. 23 at the Fonda Theatre featuring Sheryl Crow, with proceeds benefiting the charity Stomp Out Bullying. Info.
