Here’s one way your up-and-coming shoegaze band can get noticed: Slowdive gives you a shoutout on their Facebook page. That’s what happened last week with L.A. quartet Sun Colony, whose debut EP was touted by none other than Neil Halsted. And, well, nice call, Mr. Halsted. The Topanga Canyon-based quartet of Tommy Graf, Derek Mabra, Lauren Andino and Michael Quinn tap all the right pedals on their five-song maiden voyage: Buzzing, echoing guitars surge, commingle and dissolve around fervent drumming; singer Graf’s submerged narrations rub salve into the noise’s wounds; and the resulting undulating soundscapes do justice to the foursome’s stated goal of combining “Los Angeles sparkle and London gloom.” They’ve done right by the genre. The EP, released Aug. 29, will soon be out on 12-inch vinyl.
