Kenneth Aaron Harris is a man of many talents. Once the guitarist/keyboardist for mid-Aughts indie-rockers the Films, he now wields guitar for Panic! at the Disco and has worked in a production capacity with the likes of New Politics, Graham Candy and Francis Cone, among others. And he’s apparently good with a paint roller too.
This week Harris released the new solo EP, “Patterns,” the follow-up to full-lengths he issued in 2012 and ’15. “Birthday Boy (I Have Hope),” a whimsical pop track built on a yapping horn riff and snapping rhythm, is downright addictive, and the video for the song, directed and filmed by his wife Victoria, finds the L.A.-based songwriter making what he calls a “house painting audition tape.” With a groove like this, we’d have no problem adding a second coat.
