Ears Wide Open: Jake Bellows

As frontman of Omaha indie-rock quintet Neva Dinova, Jake Bellows made three albums of uncommonly poignant, dreamy folk music – two for the L.A. based Crank! label and one for Saddle Creak. He also collaborated with Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst on 2004’s stellar “One Jug of Wine, Two Vessels,” expanded and re-released last year. Now he’s sought a change of scenery, having taken up temporary residence in Los Angeles the past five months. “The band has moved on in their respective career work, there are babies on the way, and we’re separated by distance,” he says, “so I’m slowly working on a solo record.” He’s also been collaborating with Whispertown 2000’s Morgan Nagler on new music. With his second L.A. show in the offing, he shared this raw version of a new song.
