Since L.A. quartet the Tracks debuted last year making us want to “Go Out Tonight,” we’ve been waiting to hear more from the full-length album they promised. Today it arrived in the form of “Hanging On,” which they call “an ode to resilience and the personal strength it takes to continue thriving in the darkest of times.”

Those qualities ring true to Venancio Bermudez, Felipe Contreras, Jimmy Conde and Johnny Santana, sons of immigrants who grew up in working-class East L.A. and, like generations of Chicano rock bands before them, draw on that experience for their music. That and the combination of sparkling guitars and Bermudez’s croon-tastic vocals make “Hanging On” a decidedly buoyant anthem. It’s like the Walkmen or the Strokes fronted by Smiths-era Morrissey (or an earnest Englishman like Elbow’s Guy Garvey). The Tracks’ album, made with producer Lewis Pesacov (Best Coast, FIDLAR, Guards, Fool’s Gold, Valley Queen, Happy Hollows, et al) is coming in 2018.
