Since late last year, L.A. quintet Carly & the Universe have been releasing a series of singles teasing their sophomore album, “A Greater Thing.” Its warm pop-soul is built around the pliable voice of Carly Liza, who shifts subtly from alluring to reflective to tempestuous depending on what’s going down in her universe. She becomes the playful chanteuse on the new single “Good Vibes,” which is as good a track as any to lead into the album’s release on March 30. The singer calls it a “light, carefree, very L.A.-ish” tune, and indeed with the band (guitarist Mike Post, bassist Freddy Hernandez, keyboardist Artur Zakiyan and drummer Cameron Clark) negotiating time signature changes, Carly wonders how anybody could be cynical when surrounded by so many good vibes. It’s increasingly hard to find life’s cruise control button these days, but “Good Vibes” could make the trip seem shorter.
