L.A.-based Parisian Naomi Greene has a way of spinning earthly concerns into otherworldly reveries. Whether armed with a harp or guitar, Greene’s fanciful, orchestrated folk-pop ventures into the mystical.
“My skin is tougher now / than when you had me,” she sings on the new single “Collision,” which is co-produced by Theo Karon, a song that draws a parallel between a painful breakup and a wreck that one witnesses in alarming detail. Greene’s delicate, evocative vocals intertwine with Allie Stamler’s violin, dolefully lamenting ending up in the “darkest place.”
“‘Collision’ is about this feeling of illusions crashing into reality, when suddenly everything is clear and it feels like you’re in a slow-motion suspension in time right before landing back into the turbulent spiral of your life,” the 25-year-old says. “The song talks about distance and walking out of love with someone that you know isn’t good for you, all the while feeling the painful roars of your heart’s longing.”
Greene is currently in Cannes, where the film “The Blank Page” (in which she plays the lead) is being screened. Its director, Lou Dubigeon, also helms the forthcoming video for “Collision.” In June, Greene will tour some churches and cathedrals in France with composer Laurent Voulzy.
