“Kid In The Headlights” is the first original music released by SILENTSHOUT, a new project from Alina Cutrono (fka Alina Bea) and Theo Karon. It follows a cover of Kate Bush’s “Breathing” the duo shared earlier this year, with an announcement they were working on an EP titled “You Will Learn” for release sometime in 2018. Bush made sense as a cover for this avant-pop act that aims to explore electronic minimalism, analog processes and large ensemble arrangements.

On to “Kid in the Headlights.” It features a guest appearance on drums from Iron & Wine’s Elizabeth Goodfellow and was co-written and produced by their friend Eaves, who also animated the video using a video game engine. The song deals with Cutrono’s favorite subject, existential dread, and taking action instead of crumbling. “In particular, it is about fighting off the paralysis that is often a symptom of existential dread,” she says. “Eaves animated an epic sci-fi battle to portray this internal struggle, and I think he did an incredible job.”
