“Is anyone getting that Woodstock feeling right now?” Victoria Legrand asked the crowd sprawled across the Fairbanks Lawn at Hollywood Forever Cemetery on Saturday night. It was just after sunset, and Beach House frontwoman was making small talk as sound engineers tried to work out some early technical problems. It gave her a moment to pause and reflect on the moment — large but feeling intimate, pastoral but smack in the middle of a big city.
A few minutes and a few jokes later, the problems were fixed and the Baltimore duo proceeded with a sublime, virtually uninterrupted 18-song set of dream-pop. They played a mixture of songs from their 2018 release “7” such as “L’Inconnue” (which they opened with), “Drunk In LA” and “Black Car” and some from their catalog, highlighted by “Space Song,” “Rough Song” and “10 Mile Stereo.”
As the sun and heat receded, Sound of Ceres opened with a set of exploratory electronic music that featured a dancer on stage at all times.
Beach House setlist: L’Inconnue, Silver Soul, PPP, Dark Spring, Lazuli, Lemon Glow, Space Song, 10 Mile Stereo, Woo, Beyond Love, Drunk in LA, Sparks, Pay No Mind, Wishes, Elegy to The Void, Myth // Encore: Rough Song, Dive
