Living alone in the city can appear as glamorous and romantic, but if often filled with moments of benumbing solitude. The new video for post-punk/shoegaze outfit Tennis System’s “Coming Down” takes a very impressionistic look at the life of a young woman, portrayed by Niamh Hannigan. Director Logan Rice follows the protagonist leisurely through some ordinary activities as the Los Angeles trio’s characteristically lush, squalling guitars set the mood. “What have I done / What have you done / What have we done,” are the final lyrics as the song fades, and the scenes are infused with glitching colors while the sound fills before fading with a scene of the young woman driving, looking out the window on a cloudy day.
The song is from Tennis System’s EP “P A I N” (released in April), the first substantial release from the trio of singer-guitarist Matty Taylor, bassist Sam Glassberg and drummer Garren Orr since their 2014 album “Technicolour Blind.”
