Broken Baby’s debut album is all hooks and attitude, a bare-knuckle mix of rock ’n’ blues, power-pop and punk around fierce femme Amber Bollinger and her defiant take on 2018 culture. The music is a collaboration with Alex Dezen, formerly main man in the Damnwells, and the duo keep things from sounding one-note, even if you’ve heard the aesthetic before. Ten songs with Bollinger and one thing is clear: weaklings and mental midgets need not apply.

“It’s My Show!” is a single worthy of its exclamation point, with the singer’s speak-singing revealing the album’s penchant for clever wordplay. “You wanna know my sign, sure / It says stop, bro,” she deadpans, and cheers to getting shut down like that.

The song’s video is directed by Morgan Freed & Jon Ryan and is a single-take affair starring Bollinger and her red jumpsuit and she struts with purpose down an almost-deserted street. Where is she headed? We have no idea, but nice Jeep.
