Ears Wide Open: Karmic

Karmic make blithe and bouncy electronic pop, exploring the funkier side of the ’80s and packing their danceable ditties with a little purpose. Since late 2016, the band — singers Laura Baruch and Kylee Katch, backed by multi-instrumentalists/producers Sam Murphy and Peter Kastner — have released eight singles, all of which (to varying degreees) find their strength in Karmic’s two-singer attack. “Warriors,” released this past spring, is an empowerment-themed banger, while the latest single, “Wisdom Pie,” metes out some pretty good advice: “You gotta get high with your mother / She’ll give you a slice of that wisdom pie.” The visual for the song is the work of Rufus Paisley — just follow the origami airplanes.
