Parting Lines’ debut album “See You on the Other Side,” released this summer, saw the songwriting duo of Trevor Beld Jimenez and Tim Ramsey turning the page from their previous band, Tall Tales and the Silver Lining. It was not a dramatic shift in aesthetic, though; their tender, heartfelt soft rock still carries the spirit of Tom Petty and 1970s troubadours who called Laurel Canyon and/or AM radio home.
In the video for the strings-accented ballad “Under Your Spell” (directed by the duo along with Kacey Johansing), Beld Jimenez and Ramsey are exactly as you want to imagine them — in a modest room somewhere, sequestered from the mad, cynical outside world and its oppressive technology, making sanguine songs of romance. Somebody has to keep the fires of hope burning, and to do it as Parting Lines are almost qualifies as an act of valor.
