Teasing tracks since last summer, British-Aussie-L.A. musician Georgi Kay (née Georgina Kingsley), will soon release her debut album, “Where I Go to Disappear” this Friday on her label, Monoki Records. The singer-songwriter has quite a running start, with a plethora of collaborations under her belt, including the Grammy-nominated “In My Mind” with DJs Feenixpawl and Ivan Gough; writing for films and tv series (such as Jane Campion’s BBC series “Top of the Lake,” Netflix’s “Residue” and JD Dillard and BH Tilt’s acclaimed urban sci-fi  “Sleight”) and a sprouting acting career with a role in “Top of the Lake.”

In late 2016, after releasing her second EP “Origins,” Kay moved to Los Angeles and hunkered down to focus on her own solo music, honing her production and mixing skills and synthesizing her love of electronic music, video games and horror films into new songs. What results is a cohesive collection where themes of loneliness and confronting scary times fuse with a blend of electronica, trip hop and pop.

In her latest single, “Toxins,” Kay lets her “Lone Wolf” loneliness steep in, with a video (directed by Tess O’Connor) featuring her wandering with a bloodstained face interspersed with images of fingers soaked in presumably blood or black paint. As Kay shadowboxes with herself, she sings, “Sometimes I wanna do things I don’t mean to do / Sittin’ in the corner / Scared to tell the truth / Scared to hurt you, too / I keep running from my fears / I hold it all in / I know I’ll be my own demise and if I’m right, I’ll win”  Those are some self-fightin’ words.
