In a few short years, Lawrence Rothman has not only accumulated a catalog of genre-blending, cinematic art-pop songs, but the native St. Louisan has proven a gifted collaborator in the video world. Every one of Rothman’s music videos makes for gripping theater, and the latest is “Decade,” from the mini-album he will release Friday, “I Know I’ve Been Wrong, But Can We Talk?”
Co-starring Denna Thomsen (who appeared with Rothman in the video for “Oath”), director Floria Sigismondi’s narrative counterposes the tension of a harrowing relationship against the soft-hued setting, a pleasantly decorated home. We won’t spoil it for you, but “Decade” has a bite.
Rothman brings his theatrical music to a live setting tonight; his show at the Pico Union Project will feature actors and dancers, along with projections by Alba Corral.
