Things on our radar, now on yours:
■ Zella Day, the wunderkind who straddled the pop and rock worlds on her 2015 debut album and was embraced by both, has teased (but not yet released) a new song. The Arizona-bred singer-songwriter released her debut album “Kicker” in 2015, but except for last year’s collaborative single with Korey Dane, has been silent since. She has been working on new music, but business dealings have slowed the proceeding, as she explains in a letter on her website.
“I’ve learned so much about who I am as a person and as an artist by fighting for what I believe in,” writes Day, 23. “I am proud and excited to announce this next chapter of artistic freedom. I have been released from my label and production deal and as you can imagine, everything surrounding these relationships has been sensitive. I have the utmost gratitude for the people who have allowed me to move forward and grow in all of the ways that are right for me.”
Day’s new song “I Don’t Know How to End,” produced by John Velasquez (Max and the Moon), is streaming on her website only, through Christmas Day.
■ Sebadoh hasn’t released an album since 2013 (and that was their first since 1999). Social media posts like this usually mean something new is in the works, and sure enough, in the comments Lou Barlow says a new album is done.
■ GIRLSCHOOL, the women-led music, arts and ideas festival staged in January/February its first three years, will be moving to a late-summer date, sources say.
■ L.A.-based Hopeless Records will celebrate its 25-year anniversary with a big show Jan. 19 at the celebration at the Regent Theater. Dillinger Four headline, joined by 88 Fingers Louie, Guttermouth, Digger and Nobody’s. More acts will be announced.
