Sometimes the stars do align for lovers. The latest single by L.A.-via-Wyoming duo WYO (singer-songwriter Andy Sorge and multi-instrumentalist Scott McKay Gibson), “Moonlight,” is a red-rocks, Milky Way-inspired, synth-pop song about conquering the expanse of time and terrain with a little magic to kick-start the engine.

The new single follows close on the heels of WYO’s release of “Untamed” last year, their debut album produced in L.A. by Brad Wood (Smashing Pumpkins, Pete Yorn, Ben Lee) with shows around town with Robert Earl Keen, Avi Buffalo, the Fruit Bats and WhiteHorse as well as playing the Genius Loci Festival in Mexico.

Directed by Brian Lazzaro, Noah Waldron and Sorge, the video stars friends from the duo’s film school days, Creed and Sasha Garnick, who operate an art ranch called 3 Spear Ranch in Dubois, Wyoming. Of the location, Sorge shares, “When we first started to conceptualize the video for ‘Moonlight,’ the night sky easily came to mind. The song references a couple escaping into the night, away from the light of day, and the stars became a theme throughout the video. We wanted to stay true to the lyrics of the song by showing visuals that match the moments sung about. We aimed at creating a desolate and ominous world.” Filmed in a remote area near the ranch, the video stays true to vision, following the couple across wide landscapes that are both beautiful and seemingly hopeless and deserted. Together, they make it, not so much on the run as on a mission to reach the shelter of a magic destination.

WYO’s upcoming sophomore album, “Changes,” is due out later this year.
